Holocaust Assets Found

ZURICH () -- Assets belonging to five Jewish victims of the Nazis have been found in an initial search of Swiss bank vaults begun under intense international pressure, an investigator said.

Hanspeter Haeni, an ombudsman appointed by Swiss banks to help heirs of Holocaust victims locate missing accounts, said the assets were part of 1.6 million Swiss francs ($1.28 million) belonging to 11 depositors he has found so far this year.

Haeni didn't describe the six other depositors, but the search was broad-ranging, covering dormant accounts up until 1985 on the theory that that would cover any Holocaust victims who died during or after the Nazi era.
