Graf Struggles But Advances At Advanta


VILLANOVA, Pennsylvania -- In her first match since early October, top-ranked Steffi Graf struggled with her serve but still overwhelmed Amy Frazier 6-2, 6-1 in the second round of the Advanta Championships.

On Friday Graf learned that her father was freed on 5 million marks ($3.3 million) bail after 15 months in jail on charges of tax evasion.

In other matches third-seeded Jana Novotna of the Czech Republic beat Lori McNeil 6-4, 7-5, and Indonesia's Yayuk Basuki beat Kimberly Po 6-4, 6-4.

Eighth-seeded Barbara Paulus of Austria advanced when Zina Garrison Jackson withdrew because of injury.


Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde of Australia pulled out a dramatic 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-5) win over Jacco Eltingh and Paul Haarhuis of the Netherlands in a round robin match at the ATP World Doubles Championship.

The tense game went to deuce eight times in the third set before the Australians clinched victory. ()
