Clear View of Fetus

LONDON, () -- A new, three-dimensional system for taking ultrasound images of a baby in the womb allows doctors and parents to see a clear view of the fetus moving about and even yawning, Japanese doctors said Friday.

Most ultrasound images are fuzzy and unclear and it takes a trained technician to read them. But Dr. Kazunori Baba and colleagues at the University of Tokyo's medical school said they had come up with improved equipment.

They added an extra three-dimensional probe to an existing 3-D scanner and tried it out on 66 normal fetuses. It produced an image every eight seconds, which could be viewed as a sort of slow-motion video.
