Brazil Plane Crashes

SAO PAULO, Brazil () -- A Brazilian airliner crashed shortly after takeoff Thursday into a residential neighborhood here, killing all 95 people aboard and injuring at least 11 on the ground, officials said.

TAM Flight 402 bound for Rio de Janeiro was in the air only moments after taking off at 8:45 a.m. local time at Congonhas Airport. It suddenly crashed about two kilometers (1.2 miles) away from the runway.

The twin-engine Fokker 100 broke apart as it plowed into a two-story building and eight homes in the area near downtown Sao Paulo, Brazil's economic capital, as panicked residents fled.

One investigator said packages containing nearly four kilos (8.8 pounds) of cocaine were found between the fuselage and the interior of the cabin.
