Aziz, Primakov Meet

MOSCOW () -- Iraqi Foreign Minister Tariq Aziz met Sunday with his Russian counterpart Yevgeny Primakov for talks on international sanctions and the UN call for Iraq to destroy its weapons of mass destruction.

Itar-Tass said the talks would focus on problems of implementing the Security Council's resolution which provides for partial lifting of the embargo on deliveries of Iraqi oil in accordance with the oil-for-food formula.

Moscow's envoy to the Middle East, Viktor Posuvalyuk, said last week that Russia would like to see Iraq fulfill the conditions of the United Nations resolutions so that sanctions could be lifted.

Russia has $10 billion in oil development deals pending in Iraq. The deals are on hold until sanctions are lifted.
