Workers Mourn 'Death' of Wage

Workers at a Siberian plant have erected a grave stone in honor of the wages they haven't been paid for the past year, a newspaper reported Thursday.

A 500 ruble note, worth about 9 cents, was put on the stone along with an epitaph reading: "Wages, we remember you. We love and mourn you. Date of death October 1995."

Workers at the water purification plant in the eastern Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk have threatened to stop the water supply and block the city sewage system if they aren't paid soon, the daily Izvestia said.

Millions of workers throughout Russia have not been paid for months because of the country's economic crisis.
