Vladivostok School Signs On to Internet

The University of Vladivostok in the Far East on Tuesday became the third regional university in Russia to hook up to the Internet with the help of a grant from billionaire U.S. financier George Soros, news reports said.

Itar-Tass said Soros, Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Ilyushin and Primorye regional governor Yevgeny Nazdratenko took part in the first Internet video conference linking Vladivostok with Moscow on Tuesday.

Some 30 regional universities will benefit from the $100 million grant from the Hungarian-born financier over the next five years.
