Ukraine Wages to Wait

KIEV () -- Ukrainian Prime Minister Pavlo Lazarenko announced a three-year program Tuesday to help domestic industrial producers boost flagging output, but he offered little hope to workers unpaid for months.

"Maintaining and protecting domestic production, and the national production sector as a whole, holds the central place in our government plan," Lazarenko told the parliament. But he said Ukraine cannot immediately solve its $1.7-billion wage payments crisis.

Lazarenko said 40 projects and 17 new laws were under preparation to support and attract investment for large exporters like aircraft, bus and combine makers.
