Tyson Vows Revenge on Holyfield

COMBINED REPORTS

Mike Tyson hasn't quite reverted to the days when he was Sultan of Swill, but the heavyweight champion and his co-managers trash-talked with pre-prison zeal at the news conference announcing the Nov. 9 fight against Evander Holyfield.

The World Boxing Association heavyweight champion said nothing to defuse co-managers Rory Holloway and John Horne's threats that he would viciously punish Holyfield for disrespecting him.

The question is whether Holyfield said five years ago, after their original fight had been postponed and when Tyson was facing a trial for rape, that he would not fight a convicted rapist.

"A lot was said about Tyson during his time of trial and tribulation'' Holloway said. "You just don't do that. He's got to pay the price. Mike is going to inflict pain. It's going to be a little messy."

Tyson refused to believe Holyfield's denial, saying "I read the papers. He knows what he said. I know what he said."

"He's a great fighter and all that," Tyson said, "but you're out of your league, man." ()
