NEC to Sell Switches

TOKYO () -- Japan's NEC Corp. said Monday it will supply a regional Russian telephone company with switching and optical transmission equipment valued at 500 million yen ($5 million). Svyazinform, the main telecommunications carrier in Russia's third largest industrial city of Nizhny Novgorod, will take delivery of NEC's NEAX61 digital switch, with a capacity of 30,000 lines, and a 600 megabits per second optical transmission system by year's end, NEC said.
