Headingley Doomed

LONDON () -- Headingley, one of England's best-known cricket grounds, looked certain to disappear from the test circuit after Yorkshire announced plans on Monday to move to a new ?50 million ($78 million) stadium near Wakefield.

The surprise announcement signalled the end of more than 100 years' association between the county club and the Leeds ground.

Yorkshire are only tenants at Headingley and they have become increasingly frustrated over their inability to capitalize fully on test match proceeds or to expand the limited facilities.
