Ferry Suit Settled

TALLINN, Estonia () -- Rescued crew members and families of crew members who died when the Estonia ferry sank in 1994 have accepted an insurance company's compensation offer, the Baltic News Service said Monday.

The offer totaling 100 million Estonian kroon ($8.3 million) was accepted last week after long negotiations, the report said, citing Andre Paeorg, head of the Memento Estonia organization representing victims' relatives.

The Estonian-flagged ferry was sailing from Tallinn to Stockholm, Sweden, when it capsized in a storm off the Finnish coast in the early hours of Sept. 28, 1994. Of the 989 people on board, 852 people died.
