Bonn's Ecu Campaign

BONN () -- Germany's ruling Christian Democrats launched a campaign for Europe's single currency on Wednesday, a day after economic institutes said Bonn would not meet the Maastricht treaty's 1999 deadline.

Chancellor Helmut Kohl's staunchly pro-European party will hold rallies across Germany, where politicians and bankers aim to drum up support with the help of a special CD-ROM disk packed with a film, graphics and figures on the new money.

"It is planned to propose Dr. Cartellieri and Mr. Kopper for election to the bank's supervisory board next spring," Deutsche said in a statement released after a meeting of its supervisory board.
