Another Lebed Rising

MOSCOW () -- A court decision in the Siberian republic of Khakassia could set the brother of Alexander Lebed following in his political footsteps.

The Supreme Court of Khakassia on Monday decided in favor of a suit filed on behalf of Duma Deputy Alexei Lebed, a brother of the Kremlin security chief, to register as a candidate for Khakassian prime minister, Interfax reported from Abakhan, Siberia.

The Khakassian Central Electoral Commission had denied Alexei Lebed registration, referring to a local election law stipulating that a candidate must have resided in the republic for at least seven years. Lebed has been registered there since November 1995.
