Afghan Fight Gridlocks

JEBUL SIRAJ, Afghanistan () -- Forces of Afghanistan's would-be rulers and its array of enemies battled with tanks, artillery and bombers north of the capital Wednesday, but neither side appeared to have gained ground.

At least four bombs dropped by Taliban jets hit the headquarters of Ahmed Shah Massood, military chief of the government the Taliban ousted from the capital, Kabul, last month. There were no immediate reports of casualties Wednesday.

One bomb hit a civilian's home, another landed near the house Massood is using as his headquarters, and two landed near a base camp set up by soldiers of Rashid Dostum, the powerful northern warlord who has joined forces with Massood.
