Yzerman's 500th Lifts Wings

DETROIT -- Detroit's Steve Yzerman became the 22nd player in National Hockey League history to score 500 goals as the Red Wings beat the Colorado Avalanche 3-2.

Yzerman's milestone came at the 7:52 mark of the second period Wednesday night, giving Detroit a 2-0 lead.

After Colorado came back to tie the game 2-2 early in the third period, Sergei Fedorov's 19th goal at 11:28 proved to be the game-winner.

Canadiens 3, Senators 0. The Ottawa Senators opened their glittering new Palladium arena in Kanata, Ontario, the same way they closed the Ottawa Civic Centre, losing 3-0 to the Montreal Canadiens.

The Palladium, on the westernmost fringes of Ottawa's suburb, staged its first hockey game with predictable results for the Senators, who had the NHL's worst record at 8-33-1 before opening their new home.

Oilers 4, Stars 3. In Dallas, Curtis Joseph stopped 35 shots to remain unbeaten in three games since signing with Edmonton and the Oilers won for the fourth time in five games with a 4-3 decision over the Dallas Stars.
