Thai Say No Tyson

BANGKOK, Thailand () -- A Thai children's group Friday criticized efforts by the Thai government to secure a boxing match with former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson.

"Thailand shouldn't pay 1.5 billion baht [$60 million] to a man who raped a young woman when the money could be spent on better things," said Wallop Tangkananurak, secretary general of the Foundation for a Better Life for Children, a nongovernmental organization.

Chaowarin Latthasaksiri, deputy minister of education, is in Las Vegas negotiating for a Tyson fight with Don King, Tyson's promoter, and Jose Sulaiman, president of the World Boxing Council.
