Scientists Visit Ohio

MIAMISBURG, Ohio () -- Russian nuclear engineers visited an Ohio factory to look at a plutonium-fueled generator that is to be launched toward Saturn next year.

Three officials from Russia's Mayak radioisotope production plant on Monday visited the EG and G Mound plant to inspect a black, meter-high radioisotope thermo-electric generator, one of two such generators scheduled to be launched on the U.S. Cassini spacecraft in October 1997 to swing into orbit around Saturn in 2004.

Mound engineers are to begin fueling the generator this week with plutonium-238, acquired from the Mayak plant.
