Rowdy Rugby Debate

LONDON ( -- English rugby has plunged into political turmoil after member clubs failed to approve the Rugby Football Union's report on professionalism at a chaotic special general meeting in Birmingham.

Club representatives accepted the International Rugby Board's decision to permit an open game, but Sunday's meeting was halted before full debate.

It was instead proposed the debate on amateurism should be delayed until another special general meeting, even though several players have already gone professional and the England squad members have signed one-year contracts worth up to ?36,000 ($55,500) per man.
