Reshetnyov, whose team created the Kosmos rocket that became the workhorse of the Soviet space program as well as some 30 military and civil satellites, died Friday in the closed Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk-26.

Born in 1924 near Odessa, Reshetnyov worked under pioneering designer Sergei Korolyov after graduating from Moscow Aviation Institute in 1950. In 1959, he was appointed head of the mechanics research center in Krasnoyarsk-26, a post he held until his death.
