Moscow Preparing New Svyaz Tender

Russia is preparing a new tender for 25 percent of telecommunications company AO Svyazinvest, and is not in talks with Italy's STET, declared the winner of a previous tender, a privatization official said Thursday.

"We are preparing a new tender. As far as STET is concerned we stick to our previous position," said a spokeswoman for the Russian Privatization Center, which is handling the sale of the stake in the telecoms holding company. The center declared the previous tender invalid at the end of last year after STET sought to add conditions to the deal on the eve of signing it.

Russia's Communications Ministry and the head of STET's Moscow office refused to comment on a possible meeting between the Communications Minister and the head of STET.

Last week both said STET president Ernesto Pascale would visit Moscow this week to discuss the deal with Communications Minister Vladimir Bulgak.

But as of Thursday, it appeared Pascale had not come to Moscow.
