Massachusetts No. 1

NEW YORK () -- Massachusetts survived the scare of an injury to its top player and held on to the No. 1 basketball ranking for the second week in a row.

The Minutemen (10-0) were the runaway choice Monday of the national media panel, receiving 62 of 65 first-place votes and 1,622 points, 94 more than Kentucky, which was No. 2 for the second week.

Massachusetts didn't know if it would have junior center Marcus Camby for the Rainbow Classic championship game Saturday night until game time.

He bruised his right knee two minutes into the semifinal victory over Southern California and did not return. He did not start, but played 33 minutes against Syracuse in the title game.
