Magic May Suit Up

NEW YORK () -- Magic Johnson has all but guaranteed the Los Angeles Lakers he'll be in uniform next week for a game against Chicago, the New York Post reported Friday.

"This time the rumor didn't start with me," Johnson told Post columnist Peter Vecsey. "There's a lot to think about. I'll let you know."

Vecsey, also an NBC television analyst, said team lawyers have arranged for Johnson, who retired in 1991 after testing HIV positive, to sell or transfer his 5 percent share of the team, in accordance with National Basketball Association rules.

Laker president Jerry West said he told Johnson, 36, "This is the last opportunity your body is going to have."
