Kazakh Defense Talks

ALMATY, Kazakhstan () -- Defense Minister Pavel Grachev arrived in Almaty on Thursday for a three-day working visit to discuss military cooperation with Kazakhstan.

Grachev was to meet President Nursultan Nazarbayev and his team planned to hold talks with defense officials covering the joint use of Kazakh military test ranges and bases. He told reporters at Almaty airport the talks had "the final goal of achieving a similar agreement to the one signed with Belarus."

Russia and Belarus have signed a treaty in which their armed forces are jointly responsible for defending Belarus's borders with Poland, Latvia and Lithuania.
