Juventus Beats Parma 1-0, Captures Italian SuperCup

TURIN, Italy -- A first-half goal by striker Gianluca Vialli gave Juventus of Turin a 1-0 victory against Parma in the Italian SuperCup final.

It was a deserved victory for the Turin team which withstood Parma's pressure playing with only 10 players for 50 minutes Wednesday night.

Goalie Angelo Peruzzi was expelled in the 40th as he handled the ball outside the penalty area to stop a dangerous attack by Parma's Bulgarian forward Hristo Stoichkov.

The Italian SuperCup, featuring the two best teams of the 1994-95 league season, was the only trophy missing in the record of Juventus.

The most titled Italian team with 23 league wins, Juventus has also won all the European competitions for clubs and the Italian Cup. Vialli kicked in the game winner in the 32nd minute as Argentine defender Nestor Sensini failed to clear the ball from the net line following a header by Fabrizio Ravanelli.

Wednesday's long-postponed final was the last act of a series of duels between the top rivals of the last season, when La Juve and Parma battled for the league title and were finalists in the Italian Cup and UEFA Cup.

Parma only prevailed in the European competition.
