Ferry to Be Entombed

STOCKHOLM () -- A consortium of companies has been commissioned to put a cement shell over the wreck of the Estonia passenger ferry, which sank in the Baltic Sea with the loss of 852 lives, the group said Thursday.

The international consortium, led by Swedish building firm NCC, will encase the huge ferry's wreck with three layers of textile, sand and a prefabricated cement mattress to ward off robbers and plundering.

Relatives of victims have accused the Swedish government of heartlessness and of ignoring their wishes after the decision not to salvage the ship, which contains hundreds of bodies.
