Baltic Defense Alliance

TALLINN, Estonia () -- Defense ministers from the three Baltic countries are discussing creating a military alliance among the former Soviet republics, the Baltic News Service reported Monday.

Talks started late Monday after the arrival of Lithuanian Defense Minister Linas Linkevicius and his Latvian counterpart, Andrejs Krastinsh. The session will continue Tuesday with Estonian Defense Minister Andrus Oovel.

They plan to sign a defense-cooperation agreement Tuesday, the report said. The ministers also plan to discuss sending peacekeepers to join NATO's mission in Bosnia and cooperation under the Western alliance's Partnership for Peace program, the news service said.
