Aussies Open 201 for 7

MELBOURNE, Australia () -- Left-arm paceman Chaminda Vaas took three crucial wickets Thursday as Sri Lanka restricted Australia to 201 for seven in its allocated 50 overs of the first final of the World Series limited-overs cricket tournament.

Vaas finished with figures of 3-42 after an inspired opening spell that put the Sri Lankans in a strong position.

Vaas grabbed the key wickets of Australia skipper Mark Taylor and his opening partner Mark Waugh in his first three overs.

Australia again had dynamic left-hander Michael Bevan, who top scored with 59, to thank for reaching a competitive total after it crashed to 39 for four in the 14th over.

Ricky Ponting (51) and Ian Healy (50 not out) were the other major contributors with the bat, but their teammates failed miserably.
