State Prepares to Lower Duties on Selected Exports

The government is preparing to lower duties on some exported goods, Prime Minister Viktor Chernomyrdin announced at a news conference in Maloyaroslavets, Interfax reported Friday.

Chernomyrdin said duties will be lowered not only on oil and gas, but on metallurgical production, the oil-chemical industry and engineering.

He said government experts are now studying details for implementation of the duty reductions, after which the Cabinet will review their suggestions. Chernomyrdin said the order had come from President Boris Yeltsin.
