Soldier's Spree Kills

VLADIVOSTOK, Far East () -- A Russian border guard who killed his commander and four soldiers near Vladivostok was later declared sane by military doctors, Interfax said Monday.

Private Vyacheslav Bugakov, 19, went on a shooting spree early Sunday on the remote Popov Island, 15 kilometers from Vladivostok, killing his commander, Major Alexander Goloviznin, two sergeants and two privates.

The commander's 12-year-old son and the wife of a border guard were among six wounded when the private opened fire with a submachine gun in the unit's living quarters.

A medical commission sent by Russia's border guards to investigate the killings said Bugakov was sane.
