Settlers: Protest on Hold

KEDUMIM, West Bank () -- Jewish settlers being evicted from a hilltop in the West Bank said Thursday they would cease protest activities for three days at the request of Israeli President Ezer Weizman.

"We will leave here for three days during which we'll talk among ourselves," settler spokeswoman Michal Shrut said. Weizman "asked us to stop everything for three days and to think."

Settlers, who had been refusing to leave the hill near Beit El in protests over planned expansion of Palestinian self-rule in the West Bank, began walking down on their own.
