Red Arrows Targeted

LONDON () -- Defense cuts may ground the Red Arrows, the British air force's renowned aerobatics display team, The Times of London reported in its Monday edition.

The paper said the team's home base in Lincolnshire was due to close in September and the Ministry of Defense had been unable to find a new home. Officers are suggesting that the aircraft be mothballed in Cyprus when they return from a tour of South Africa in October and that all 80 members of the team be sent on extended leave, The Times said.

The Red Arrows cost ?17 million ($27 million) a year but half is recouped through appearance fees.
