ORT Ad Firm Names New Boss

Russia's main television network, whose launch was surrounded by controversy and violence, has set up a new company to handle its multimillion-dollar advertising business.

Interfax quoted Public Russian Television, or ORT, general director Sergei Blagovolin as saying Thursday the channel had created a new company, ORT-Reklama, to handle the advertising, which it resumed carrying Aug 1.

The company is to be headed by Sergei Lisovsky, who heads one of Russia's top ad agencies, Premier-SV.

Partially privatized ORT, created by presidential decree, was launched on April 1 without advertisements. ORT's predecessor -- state-run Ostankino Television -- had earlier stopped carrying the lucrative advertisements, saying they caused too much social disruption.

The moratorium was widely believed to have triggered the slaying on March 1 of Vladislav Listyev, originally named as ORT's executive director.
