Marcos Jr. Convicted

MANILA () -- A Manila court Monday sentenced Ferdinand Marcos Jr., son of the late Philippine dictator, to a total of nine years in jail on tax evasion charges.

The court also ordered his immediate arrest for failing to show up for the sentencing.

The clerk of the court, Gina Palamos, said Marcos was found guilty beyond reasonable doubt of violating the law for failing to pay income taxes from 1982 to 1985. He was ordered by the Quezon City regional trial court to pay fines of 72,000 pesos ($2,880).

Marcos is reported to be out of the count
