Kiev Reformer Return

KIEV () -- Viktor Pynzenyk, Ukraine's most prominent reformer, said after being reappointed to the cabinet that the nation's reforms had deviated only slightly from a program agreed with the IMF.

Pynzenyk, who was first deputy prime minister after President Leonid Kuchma's election last year, said Wednesday he had been named deputy prime minister in charge of reform.

Kuchma appointed the more conservative Roman Shpek to take overall charge of the economy last month and left Pynzenyk out of appointments to a new cabinet. But he later said he wanted Pynzenyk to direct strategic rather than microeconomic issues in the former Soviet republic.
