3 Die in Chopper Crash

MOSCOW () -- An overloaded helicopter plunged into a river during an air show in southern Russia, killing three people, including a young German boy, authorities said Monday.

The Russian-built Mi-2U helicopter took off Saturday in Kamyshin, a town in the southern Volgograd region, carrying 10 people, said Anatoly Bannikov, the regional head of the Emergency Situations Ministry. The craft was designed to carry only a pilot and four passengers.

One of the helicopter's engines failed, causing it to crash into the Kamyshinka River, Bannikov said. He said the flight was made with "gross violations of safety requirements.''
