Yeltsin Calls Kohl to Confer

President Boris Yeltsin telephoned German Chancellor Helmut Kohl on Thursday to discuss Bosnia and other issues, the presidential press office said.

"The president of Russia and the chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany agreed on the necessity for the quickest possible end to the bloodshed in Bosnia and a peaceful political solution to the conflict," it said in a statement.

They "stressed the need for the world community to act most rigorously for a resolution of the Bosnian problem," it said. The statement gave no further details of the call, made on the eve of a meeting of the five-nation Contact Group in London aimed at trying to find a coordinated policy towards the Bosnian conflict.

Yeltsin remains in the hospital after suffering a heart attack last week.
