The Price of Fame

NEW YORK () -- The Knicks have put the squeeze on the celebrity swells who own the exclusive courtside seats at Madison Square Garden, doubling the price to $1,000 per game. Still, Garden spokesman John Cirillo said he expects most of the 60 holders of the hottest seats in New York to renew their VIP tickets.

"It's a high-rent district. It's like buying a house in Malibu," Cirillo said Wednesday. "There are only 60 seats in the VIP program. This does not impact the general public at all."

The price increase means the rich-and-beautiful courtsiders -- such as Spike Lee, John McEnroe and Ahmad Rashad -- will have to fork over $86,000 for a pair of season tickets. Playoff tickets are extra.
