Politicians Back 'Kukly'

MOSCOW () -- Two prominent members of the State Duma are not offended by their puppet portrayals in the satirical "Kukly" program, their press secretaries told Interfax on Thursday.

Yegor Gaidar, leader of the Russia's Choice party, and Vladimir Zhirnovsky, who heads the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia, do not intend to appeal to the Prosecutor General's Office over the charges it has brought against the show aired by NTV, Viktor Filatov said.

The prosecutor's office said "Kukly" portrayed President Boris Yeltsin and Prime Minister Viktor Chernomyrdin in an insulting fashion. It has launched an investigation to include any other politicians who consider themselves insulted by the show.
