Big Bucks for All Blacks

WELLINGTON, New Zealand () -- New Zealand rugby union coach Laurie Mains has lashed out at Australian rugby league scouts he says are stepping up efforts to persuade top All Black players to switch codes.

"They're parasites. If they could coach themselves, they'd develop their own players," Mains said in a television interview Wednesday night.

With the World Cup over, officials are trying to prevent top New Zealand players from being tempted to rugby league by lucrative contracts.

The New Zealand Rugby Football Union last week offered All Black players contracts to stay in the 15-man code, with a reported base rate of about N.Z. $150,000 (U.S. $100,000).
