6 Die in Train Crash

MOSCOW () -- A train carrying prison convicts smashed head-on into another train in central Russia, touching off a fuel explosion and fire that officials said killed at least six people.

Twenty to 30 cars derailed Wednesday and at least one fuel tanker blew up after the collision near Nizhny Novgorod, about 400 kilometers east of Moscow, news agencies reported.

The dead included a female prisoner, four train drivers and a railroad official, Itar-Tass reported.
