2 More Missile Tests

TAIPEI () -- China has test-fired two more missiles into the sea near Taiwan, sending the wealthy island's financial markets tumbling Tuesday and triggering what analysts said were signs of a capital outflow.

State television said the missiles, like four already launched from China's southeastern Jiangxi province, were fired Monday at a target area in the sea about 140 kilometers north of Taiwan.

Senior officials say the tests by China, Taiwan's rival of 46 years, were aimed at causing panic in Taiwan and fomenting social instability.

Stock prices slumped 2.72 percent and the Taiwan dollar sank to a 12-month low.
