LDPR Leaves Chambers During Israeli's Speech

Russian ultranationalist leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky led his faction out of the State Duma on Friday when Israel's parliamentary speaker addressed the lower house of parliament.

Zhirinovsky, who has often denounced what he sees as the influence of Zionism in Russia and has been accused of anti-Semitism, had earlier objected to an Israeli flag hanging outside the Duma and said it should be taken down.

This was not done and when Shevah Weiss, speaker of the Israeli Knesset, went to the podium to speak, Zhirinovsky strode out of the chamber followed by the other 50-odd members of his Liberal Democratic Party of Russia.

Weiss, who was born in western Ukraine and spent three years as a child hiding from the Nazis, expressed gratitude to Russia for the fact that his life had been saved by a Russian major.

Yury Kuznetsov, a nationalist deputy, echoed Zhirinovsky: "The Israeli flag on the Duma building indicates the end of Russia, because it has been stolen by Judo-usurers behind the scenes."
