Joint-Stock Law Passed

MOSCOW () -- Russia's parliament Friday approved a law on joint-stock enterprises, intended to supplement relevant Civil Code articles, Interfax reported.

The law is aimed at protecting "the rights and interests of shareholders," Duma deputy Sergei Burkov was quoted as saying.

One provision grants shareholders the right to proportional representation in their enterprise's management and to buy extra shares the company issues, said Burkov, chairman of the lower house Committee on Property, Privatization and Economic Activity.
