Croatia Downs France 81-72, Meets Italy in Quarterfinals

ATHENS -- Dino Radja and Arijan Komazec paced Croatia to a 81-72 victory over France that sends France, with a 4-2 record, against undefeated Yugoslavia in the quarterfinals of the European Basketball Championship.

Croatia, unbeaten in six games, will meet Italy in Friday's quarterfinals.

Russia did just enough to beat Turkey 102-93 on Wednesday and finished the round-robin portion with a 4-2 record in Group B. Guard Sergei Babkov had a game-high 25 points, center Andrei Fetisov had 18 points, 13 rebounds and six assists.

Lithuania, Russia's quarterfinal rival, beat Israel 91-75.

Host Greece will meet Spain.

Komazec had a game-high 28 points, five assists and six rebounds, while Radja had 17 points and nine rebounds.

Yugoslavia used all 12 players and completed a 6-0 round by beating defending champion Germany 92-79.

Italy, 3-3 in Group A advanced to the last eight with a 93-61 victory over Sweden, which finished the tournament 0-6.

Slovenia, one of the three teams from the former Yugoslavia competing here, ended its campaign with a 94-72 win over winless Finland in Pool B and ended up 2-4.
