UN Warns Serbs, Croats

SARAJEVO () -- Croatian and rebel Serb troops were under orders from the United Nations Security Council on Thursday to withdraw from UN buffer zones in Croatia or face unspecified punitive action.

The council resolution was aimed mainly at Croatia, whose president Franjo Tudjman had promised to pull his army out of three zones but failed to meet the deadline. The troops breached the UN-controlled zones two weeks ago when they launched a successful offensive to take back Western Slavonia from ethnic Serbs.

In Sarajevo, a shell killed one person. Two Russian peacekeepers were wounded near the city.
