No Evidence of POWs

WASHINGTON () -- A joint U.S.-Russian working group has found no credible evidence to date that any U.S. Vietnam-War-era prisoners were sent to the Soviet Union, according to a draft interim report made available Tuesday.

The Vietnam War working group of the Joint Commission on POW/MIAs said both sides believed "substantially more work" was required on Vietnam-related issues.

"The commission has developed no credible evidence to date suggesting the Soviets transferred American POWs to the former Soviet Union," the draft said.

It said Russia had provided 270 pages of material including 64 pages from the GRU Soviet military intelligence archive on the air war in Vietnam.
