VLADIVOSTOK, Far East () -- Japanese teams have decided to quit the Russian Rally '95 road race following the death of a Japanese entrant, Itar-Tass reported Wednesday.

Hideki Otawa, 54, died after suffering severe chest injuries when the Mitsubishi Pajero in which he was riding as navigator left a road at high speed and hit a lamp-post, near the Far East settlement of Preobrazheniye, 80 kilometers north of the port of Nakhodka, the agency said.

The rally, which included only Russian and Japanese teams, began Sunday in Nakhodka, with drivers planning to cover 2,000 kilometers in five days.
