Ebola Cases Reach 114

GENEVA () -- The number of cases of the lethal Ebola virus in Zaire has risen to 114, and the death toll increased by two to a total of 79, the World Health Organization said Thursday.

WHO's expert team is visiting the communities of Kikwit, the center of the outbreak, to seek out relatives and neighbors of those known to have contracted the dangerous disease.

Thursday's figure includes suspected victims of the virus. Previously, WHO included in its count only confirmed cases, who were all people who had died in hospital. The number of cases arriving at Kikwit's hospital daily has remained steady at around three per day.
