Warsaw Shares Rise

BUDAPEST () -- Warsaw and Budapest bourses spurted ahead this week with strong performances, but share prices moved sideways in the rest of eastern Europe.

Polish stocks climbed in the week to Thursday in high turnover even though the rise was interrupted by a correction Wednesday. The all-share WIG index ended Friday at 8,761.8 points, up 367.8.

After weeks of thin turnover and weak prices the Budapest Stock Exchange advanced steadily every day as foreigners' returned to buy big amounts of Hungarian paper.
